Memory Foam

Memory foam is not, in general terms, a new product. The last few years have seen a greater, more significant, increase in the worldwide interest in the product as and when used in mattresses or similar, to create a more comfortable nights sleep. (compared, that is, to some of the more traditional styled mattresses.)

Originally, during the 1970’s, NASA had designed a memory foam to be used during the take-off times of their space shuttles. It was able, by its unique nature, to reduce the extremely high pressure points caused by what is termed G force. Later it was used medically.

Aiding patients, who sometimes bed-bound, suffered from the ‘building up’ of pressure, (the reduction of blood flow), which collected in and around the contact points of their bodies, causing them to acquire the associated pains and discomforts i.e. clotting, bed sores and ironically, higher blood pressure.

Now memory foam can be used industrially and commercially.

Herein, lies the key to the understanding the unique benefits of the product.

1. Pressure points build up around the areas of the hip, the neck, the shoulders, the head, during sleep.

2. These vulnerable pressure points can cause excess rotation during the night. Which can disturb an individuals sleeping pattern .

3. Memory foam moulds quickly to the shape of the body.

In doing this the weight of the sleeper’s body can be supported more evenly. Circulation improves. The tendency to toss and turn during the night, lessens. Better quality sleep patterns are therefore achieved. Greater relaxation means an improvement in the associated back problems, aching joints, spinal alignment and the worsening conditions which occur later in life, like arthritis and sciatica.

It is available with or without traditional spring systems ( i.e. open coil and pocket springs) to achieve a greater range of feel and support. A greater choice of performance is therefore available to the individual, regardless of the individuals weight.

It does not require turning. The product is also known as Visco Elastic. It is recommended as an aid to those with allergies or asthma sufferers, as it is completely synthetic.
